CleanLabel — a product of CleanLabel LLC
Last updated: August 22, 2026
The Short Version
We built CleanLabel to help you read food labels. That's all it does, and the information we collect reflects that.
We do not collect health information about you. Not your conditions, not your medications, not your diagnoses, not your weight. We never ask, and there is nowhere in the app to tell us.
We do not sell your information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to food companies, not to anyone. There is no version of this where your grocery habits get sold.
We do not use your camera to take pictures. The camera reads a barcode and nothing else. No photo is saved, and no image ever leaves your phone.
What we do keep is small: your email address, and a list of the products you've scanned. That's what lets you look back at what you scanned last week.
If you'd like the detail, it's below. If you'd like to ask us something instead, write to hello@cleanlabelapp.com and a person will answer.

Who we are
CleanLabel is operated by CleanLabel LLC, a Georgia limited liability company.
Email: hello@cleanlabelapp.com
What we collect
Your email address. You give us this when you create an account. We use it to sign you in, to send you account-related messages, and to reach you if something goes wrong.
Your scan history. When you scan a product, we save the barcode, the product name and brand, and the date. This is what powers the History screen. If you save a product to your favorites, we keep that too.
Basic technical information. The type of device you're using and the version of the app. This helps us fix problems and know which phones to support.
Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription, and when it renews. See "Payments" below for who handles the actual money.
That's the complete list.
What we don't collect
We want to be specific here, because "we care about your privacy" is a sentence that means nothing on its own.
No health information. No conditions, symptoms, medications, allergies, diagnoses, height, weight, or fitness data.
No photographs. The camera is used to read a barcode. Nothing is captured, stored, or transmitted.
No location. We don't know which store you're in or what city you live in.
No contacts, calendar, photos, or microphone. The app never asks for access to any of these.
No advertising identifiers. We don't run ads and we don't track you across other apps.
How we use what we collect
Only for these things:
Signing you into your account
Showing you your scan history and saved products
Knowing whether your subscription is active
Fixing bugs and improving how the app works
Answering you when you contact us
We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to make guesses about your health, or to target you with anything.
Who else touches your information
We use a small number of outside companies to run the app. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job.
Supabase - Database that stores your account and scan history. It receives your email address, scan history and saved products so that it shows up in the app for you.
RevenueCat - Manages Subscriptions. It receives an anonymous subscriber ID and your subscription status.
Apple/Google - Process Payments. Your payment details - we never see these.
Open Food Facts, Chomp - Provides product information. It reads the barcode you scan and nothing about you.
About where your account and scans are stored. Supabase is the database company we use. Your information sits there encrypted on disk, and it travels between your phone and that database over an encrypted connection. Every record is tied to your account, and the database is configured so that one account can never read another's — your scan history isn't visible to other CleanLabel users.
Supabase stores this on our behalf and nothing more. They are contractually barred from selling it, sharing it, mining it, or using it for any purpose of their own.
We'll be straightforward about one thing, because "encrypted" is a word that often implies more than it delivers: encryption protects your information from outsiders. It doesn't mean it's hidden from us. A small number of people who maintain CleanLabel can access the database, because someone has to be able to fix things when they break. We keep that group as small as it can be, and we don't look at individual accounts except when you've asked us to help with something.
Worth understanding: when you scan a barcode, we look it up in public food databases. We send them the barcode number only. They don't receive your email, your account, or any indication of who you are.
None of these companies are permitted to sell your information or use it for their own purposes.
We do not sell your information
We have never sold personal information and we don't intend to. We also don't "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, which is the technical term for the kind of tracking that follows you between apps.
If that ever changed, we would tell you clearly and ask first.
How long we keep things
We keep your account and scan history for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete it — see below.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, in the Profile tab. You don't have to email us or ask permission.
When you delete your account, we remove your email address, your scan history, and your saved products from our systems. This is permanent and we can't undo it.
If you have an active subscription, we handle it as part of the same step.
On Android, we cancel your subscription for you, then delete your account. One action does both.
On iPhone or iPad, Apple doesn't permit us to cancel a subscription on your behalf — only you can, through your Apple ID. So we open Apple's cancellation screen for you inside the app, confirm the subscription is cancelled, and then delete your account. It's still one flow, just with one tap from you in the middle.
Either way, we email you afterward confirming what happened to both your account and your subscription. That email is the only record you'll have once the account is gone, so keep it.
We will never delete your account while quietly leaving you subscribed.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
Ask what information we hold about you
Ask us to correct it
Delete your account and everything in it
Ask for a copy of your information
Email hello@cleanlabelapp.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking.
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another state with a privacy law, you have these rights by statute, plus the right to appeal if we refuse a request. You may also designate someone else to make a request on your behalf — a family member helping you manage your accounts, for example.
Children
CleanLabel isn't designed for children and isn't directed at anyone under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, write to hello@cleanlabelapp.com and we'll remove it.
Payments
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, not by us. Your card number, billing address, and payment details go to them and never pass through CleanLabel. We only learn whether your subscription is active.
Security
Your information is stored in encrypted databases, and access is restricted to the small number of people who maintain the app. Connections between your phone and our servers are encrypted.
We'll be honest: no system is perfectly secure, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we'll tell you promptly and directly.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects you meaningfully — collecting something new, or using information differently — we'll notify you in the app before it takes effect. Minor corrections will be posted here with an updated date.
Questions
We'd genuinely rather answer a question than have you wonder. If you're reading this because you're checking out an app for a parent or grandparent, you're welcome to write to us directly.
Additional Disclosures for U.S. State Residents
This section provides the specific disclosures required by state privacy laws. It doesn't change anything described above — it restates the same practices in the form those laws require. If the plain-language version above was enough for you, you don't need to read this.
Who this applies to
These disclosures apply to residents of states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maryland, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, and Utah. Rights vary somewhat by state; where a right below is limited to particular states, we say so.
Categories of personal information we collect
The following table uses the categories defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140).
What we collect
A. Identifiers — Your email address, and an internal account identifier.
B. Customer records information (§ 1798.80(e)) — Your email address.
D. Commercial information — The barcodes, product names, and brands you have scanned or saved, and whether your subscription is active.
What we collect in limited form
F. Internet or network activity — Your device type, operating system version, app version, and app error logs. We do not collect anything about your browsing or your activity in other apps.
What we do not collect
We collect none of the following:
C. Protected classification characteristics — such as age, race, gender, religion, or disability.
E. Biometric information.
G. Geolocation data — neither precise nor approximate. We do not know where you are.
H. Audio, electronic, visual, or similar information — the camera reads barcodes in real time. No image is captured, stored, or transmitted.
I. Professional or employment information.
J. Education information.
K. Inferences drawn to create a profile — we do not profile you or infer characteristics about you.
Sensitive personal information — see the section immediately below.
Sensitive personal information
We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by California or any other state law. Specifically, we do not collect health information, precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, union membership, genetic or biometric data, the contents of your communications, or information about your sex life or sexual orientation.
Because we do not collect it, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information does not apply — there is nothing to limit.
Sources of personal information
We collect personal information directly from you — when you create an account, scan a product, save a product, or contact us. We also receive subscription status from Apple and Google when you purchase or cancel.
We do not buy personal information, and we do not obtain it from data brokers, advertising networks, social media platforms, or public records.
Why we collect it
We use personal information for these business purposes only:
Creating and maintaining your account and authenticating you
Providing the service — scan history, saved products, ingredient information
Determining whether your subscription is active
Responding to your support requests
Detecting and fixing errors, bugs, and security incidents
Complying with legal obligations
Disclosure for business purposes
In the preceding 12 months we disclosed the following categories to service providers, each under a written contract restricting them to processing on our behalf:
To our cloud database and authentication provider (Supabase) — categories A, B, and D: identifiers, customer records information, and commercial information.
To our subscription management provider (RevenueCat) — category A in pseudonymous form only, and category D limited to subscription status.
To our application infrastructure providers — category F: device and app diagnostics.
We disclose a barcode number only to the public food databases we query. No identifier, account, or personal information accompanies that request.
Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising
We do not sell personal information. We have not sold personal information in the preceding 12 months, and we do not intend to.
We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not process it for targeted advertising as defined by Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, or other state laws. We have not done so in the preceding 12 months.
We do not sell or share the personal information of minors under 16.
Because no sale, sharing, or targeted advertising occurs, we honor opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control by default — there is no processing for you to opt out of.
Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not engage in profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. We do not use automated decision-making technology as defined by state privacy regulations.
How long we keep information
Kept for as long as your account is open: your account information (email address and account identifier), your scan history and saved products, and your subscription status.
Kept up to 90 days: diagnostic and error logs.
Kept up to 24 months after the matter is resolved: support correspondence.
When you delete your account, we delete the associated information from our production systems. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before being overwritten in the ordinary course.
Your rights
Depending on your state, you have the right to:
Know and access — confirm whether we process your personal information and obtain a copy, including the categories collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of recipients
Correct — have inaccurate personal information corrected
Delete — have your personal information deleted
Portability — receive your information in a portable, readily usable format
Opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, and profiling — none of which we engage in
Limit the use of sensitive personal information — which we do not collect
Non-discrimination — we will not deny service, charge a different price, or provide a different quality of service because you exercised a right
Appeal — in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Montana, Oregon, and other states, you may appeal a refusal of your request
How to exercise your rights
The fastest route for deletion is in the app: Profile → Delete Account. No request or waiting period. If you have an active subscription, the deletion flow cancels it as part of the same process — on Android we cancel it for you, and on iOS we take you to Apple's cancellation screen inside the app before completing deletion.
For anything else, email hello@cleanlabelapp.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." Tell us which right you're exercising and the email address on the account.
Verification. We verify requests by confirming you control the email address associated with the account. For requests to delete or to obtain specific pieces of information, we may ask you to confirm from that address. We use information provided for verification only for that purpose.
Timing. We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we'll tell you within that period and may extend once by an additional 45 days.
Authorized agents. You may designate someone to make a request on your behalf — this includes an adult child or caregiver helping a family member. We'll ask for written permission signed by you, and we may ask you to verify your own identity directly. In California, an agent may instead provide a valid power of attorney.
Appeals. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our decision with the subject line "Privacy Appeal." We'll respond within 45 days (60 in some states) with our decision and reasoning. If we deny the appeal, we'll tell you how to contact your state attorney general.
California — Shine the Light
California Civil Code § 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about personal information disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.
Nevada
Nevada residents may submit a verified request that we not sell covered information. We do not sell covered information. Requests may be sent to hello@cleanlabelapp.com.
Consumer health data — Washington, Nevada, and Connecticut
Washington's My Health My Data Act, Nevada's SB 370, and Connecticut's consumer health data provisions define health data broadly.
CleanLabel does not collect consumer health data. We do not collect or infer information about your health status, conditions, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, medications, bodily functions, vital signs, diet or nutrition status, or any attempt to obtain health services. We do not collect precise location information of any kind.
The app displays general educational information about food ingredients. It does not evaluate that information against you, and it makes no determination or inference about your health.
